Günther Scholz 8.12.1911 - 24.10.2014
Günther Scholz, probably the last Legion Condor veteran, passed away at his home on Chemnitz (Germany) on 24.10.2014 at the age of 102 years.
Scholz was not among the best known Luftwaffe ace pilots, as his score was "only" 34 air victories. However, his combat pilot career was still remarkable starting from the Spanish Civil War, in which he achieved his first air victory and later continuing through the Polish Campaign 1939, Battle of France, Battle of Britain, the Balkans Campaign and Operation Barbarossa. During the later stage of WW2 he was posted in Northern Finland and Norway. During his military career Scholz learned to know several Luftwaffe celebrities including such as Adolf Galland, Werner Mölders, Josef Kammhuber, Hannes Trautloft and Gotthard Handrick.
