Oberleutnant Klenk of fuhrer Kurier staffel

Hi Guys

I was wondering if anybody can other a forename, date of Birth/death for this pilot. I know you would have to dig deep. All I know about him is that he made two known claims:-

16th August 1944 Pe-2 1014 hrs 8000 metres Nr.1
29th September 1944 Pe-2 1352 hrs 5600 metres Nr.2

His death is listed as in January 1945 near Berlin, and that he is buried in Eschwege, Germany.

Grateful for any assistance

Kind Regards

Johannes

Looking up 'Gotthold Klenk Luftwaffe ' online shows under Luftwaffe w Oels 1937-45 an incident with He 111 P 5J+EN on 1-9-139 with crew of Uffz Gotthold Klenk . Plus an old thread on TOCH for losses over Holland 10-5-40 with the same man taken POW . Seems a possibility this is the same man all as Chris' post , Grabesuche site shows Hptm Klenk killed 14-1-45 as born at Mittelschonbach.

Re: Oberleutnant Klenk of fuhrer Kurier staffel

Hi Guys

Many thanks for that. I can confirm that it is Gotthold Klenk, not sure about his 1940 adventures, but a rare name would suggest we are looking at the same guy. He flew in Poland(not 1939) with JGr.West. I went to update my Fuhrer Kurier Staffel file and found a claim for an Oberleutnant Gotthold on 28th August 1944 for a Boston at 1020 hrs 8000 metres, almost certainly the mikrofilms have made another mistake, and it is Gotthold Klenk, actually there is a photo with him after his second claim in August 1944......that makes sense.
Also the unit was to escort a Fw200 carrying important people and repatriating pilots coming down in Sweden. Six of the nine claims were against Pe-2's, which I would guess were attacking the Fw200.

Guess it's a thousand to one shot, but would anybody have a copy of his flugbuch, or any other of this units pilots?

Thanks again

Regards

Johannes

Hi Bubek

Thanks for that, guess Klenk was a honest claimer then, also I was wondering about the Boston, thought strange that he claims a bomber, but as you pointed out it was on recon.

Kind Regards

Johannes

hi, again.
typical for VVS (also for IAP - many fighters did recon flights...), besides - look at the flight altitude - typical of reconnaissance flights...

kind regards

Hello,

Topic has received a good airing a few years ago (including Nick Hector's mention of the altitude factor):

If 25N/SD-82 coordinates is an Insterburg raum it could be l-nt's Zinovjev's Pe-2 from 90 ORAP, lost that day in Insterburg area (recon flight), crew MIA.
