I have taken the liberty of sending some of the photographs to them to ask if they have any further information about the device.
Let's wait for a response from C. Plath
Thanks Andy!!

Additionally, the author of the above document maintains a web site that may be of interest with regard to Navigation Computers
In the file "Dead Reckoning Computer" (Andy's second link) there is a similary looking, but differently named device (ATK 4), also by C. Plath.
This could mean, this is another version of C. Plath's dead rekoning computers. In the file it is said that these devices lead to the development of the Knemeyer Dreieckrechner (DR series). The generic german term for a device like this, would be Koppelnavigationsrechner/ -besteck or Gissungsbesteck.

Antonio,
FYI, you have found two slightely different devices:
ATK series, Unit for distances is in Km (Kilometer) [likely the aviation, Luftwaffe version]
ATS series, Unit for distances is in Nautical Miles (Seemeilen) [likely the navy version, although it is marked with "Fl23822"]

Re: Observer Instrument Navigation...What exactly is it?

Antonio,

With regard to contacting C. Plath GmbH - this was almost a dead end. Although they claim to have been trading since 1837 the company Hein & Oetting Feinwerktechnik GmbH trades under the C.Plath name under licence from Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine.....

So, I have now attempted to contact the Hambourg office of Sperry Marine with the enquiry. I would say that I do not expect to receive a positive response.

If I receive anything I will update the thread.
