Questions for a Fw190 spinner (with 3 colors)

Hi all,

A friend of mine is a good plastic modeler. He collects too photos of WWII German planes. With specific details of aircrafts. He just sent me this shot ... Please what are your ideas about that Fw 190 spinner wearing 3 colors ?
Colors ?
units ? Black ? white ? red ??
Period ?

Have a good week end
Phil.

Re: Questions for a Fw190 spinner (with 3 colors)

I try to avoid making pronouncements on colors, but if I had to guess, I'd say it looks like a factory-stock RLM 70 spinner that has had a thin black & white spiral added. Maybe the base color of this Focke Wulf's spinner is a color other than RLM 70, but that is by far the most commonly-seen finish.

As you only included a fragment of the photo, making a guess as to the location or unit becomes problematic.

I would agree...

I have seen Me109 segmented spinners (factory), with a spiral added over top...

The spiral looks a bit hand-painted, so maybe the black was near-to-hand to neaten it up a bit?
