Armin Faber questions
He was repatriated during the war and and flew more combat missions. What unit did he fly with.
What did he do post war? Is he still alive? Thanks. |

Re: Armin Faber questions
Presume you are talking about Oblt Faber of III/JG 2? Where did you find he was repatriated? Surely this would only happen if he was seriously wounded & he was not. Believe he is no longer alive-Shoreham Museum were in touch with him some years ago

Re: Armin Faber questions
Yes Chris.
Wiki: Whilst a prisoner of war in Canada, Faber managed to successfully convince British authorities that he suffered from epilepsy. Remarkably, it appears the authorities were taken in by his ruse and in 1944 they allowed his repatriation. Shortly after his return, he was again flying in front-line fighter operations. |

Re: Armin Faber questions
Hmm. No source is quoted for this repatriation? In any case, handing over a prime example of a FW 190 would not have made him popular with the hierarchy added to which he was apparently not that popular within JG 2. When Willi 'Bill' Reuschling of 7/JG 2 who was also captured on 23 Jun 42 was told what Faber had done, he said something like 'I would have expected that from this bloody fool'.

Re: Armin Faber questions
A Geoff Nutkins article in Flypast some years ago titled "Unintentional Gift" says " Faber was shipped off to Canada and after two escape attempts he was repatriated just before the end of the war due to ill health". There was a print signed by Faber available through I believe Shoreham Museum (around fifteen plus years ago ?), perhaps Geoff Nutkins might have more info.on this. I think there is a website for the museum with contact details,
Regards Brian Bines http://fcafa.wordpress.com/2011/10/2...entional-gift/ should lead to the Flypast article of June 1986 |

Re: Armin Faber questions
RT,
I believe that was Lt. Klaus Faber, the same pilot that was with JV 44. Cheers, John |
