Hurricane part?
Dear all,
Can anyone confirm that this item originates from a Hurricane. I have found it loose in a box in my loft and my memory tells me its a small part from Hugh Beresford's hurricane. Thanks Gerry Attachment 20547 |

Re: Hurricane part?
With that part number, it is a component from a carburettor.
It therefore could have come from a Hurricane or any other aircraft equipped with an SU carb. |

Re: Hurricane part?
Sean does not confirm the part is from a Hurricane. The part is from a SU carburetor, which could have been installed on anything.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SU_carburettor The S.U. Carburetter Company Limited also manufactured dual-choke updraught carburettors for aero-engines such as the Rolls-Royce Merlin and Rolls-Royce Griffon https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Merlin Merlin X with Stanley Hooker re-designed supercharger[16] incorporating re-designed inlet and improved guide vanes on impeller with revised blower gear ratios; 8:15:1 for low gear, 9:49:1 for high gear. New larger SU twin choke updraught carburettor. Engine interchangeable with Merlin X. Rated at 1,240-horsepower (924 kW) at 2,850 rpm in low gear at 10,000 feet and +9 lb boost; 1,175-horsepower (876 kW) at 2,850 rpm in high gear at 17,500 feet at +9 lb boost. Revised Rolls-Royce unitised "Power Plant" installation design. Engine used in Bristol Beaufighter II, Boulton Paul Defiant II, Handley Page Halifax II and V, Hawker Hurricane II and IV, and Avro Lancaster I and III. First Merlin produced by Packard Motor Car Company as V-1650-1 and designated by Rolls-Royce as Merlin 28 |

Re: Hurricane part?
Hi Revi,
Yes, I understand that but the part had come loose from a display board and was lying in the bottom of a box. The other loose parts in the box relate to German aircraft so I'm happy this must be from Hugh Beresford's Hurricane and has come away from the display board at some stage. Many thanks Gerry |
