SQUADRON CRESTS

Hello,

From other posts on this and other forums I see that the correct term is Badge and not Crest.
So

With regard to Squadron Badges.
What were the rules with regard to whether a badge was either approved or not?
Further to which, if the design was not approved then what happened to the design, was it just destroyed or returned to the Squadron ?
Also did the same rules apply to applications by the RAF and Royal Navy ?

Thanks
Alex
Ps. While I can edit this post , How do I edit and correct the Heading ?
