Do18 2/406 shot down 16 July 1940

Hi guys

Seeking information re the loss of above, believed shot down by a Hudson of Coastal Command.

Any info appreciated. Do18 crew? Hudson crew?

Hudson R/224 Sqn & M/233 Sqn reported inconclusive meetings with Do 18s at 1932 & 1940 hrs

2./KüFlGr.406 Dornier Do18G-1 (0859). Oil feed to rear engine damaged by return fire during engagement with No.233 Squadron Hudson and ditched 70 miles north-west of Kinnaird's Head 7.50 p.m. FF Uffz [ ] Steinbach, BO Fw Walter Staack, BF Uffz [ ] Harnisch, and BM Uffz [ ] Mallasch all unhurt. Aircraft K6+CK scuttled and sunk by gunfire 100% write-off.
This aircraft taxied eastwards and the crew was eventually rescued by Do18 K6+EK (Lt zur See Heintze) at dawn next day and returned to Stavanger.

2./KüFlGr.406 Dornier Do18G-1. Returned with elevators and starboard tail strut damaged by return fire following 50 minute running engagement with No.224 Squadron Hudson over the North Sea ending 100 miles south-west of Stavanger 8.30 p.m. Lt zur See Max Nouvel and rest of crew unhurt. Aircraft K6+AK damage state not recorded.
