Re: BF 110 VK+KL wrecked

Hello Jim,

5338 is the correct Werkenummer, other Werkenummer/Stammkennzeichen combinations (for instance 5348/VQ+KV of 2./NJG 102) confirm that VQ+KL belonged to 5338.

Best regards, Marcel

[quote=Jim P.;168191]WNr. 5338 or 5538? I have the latter recorded in my DB.

Re: BF 110 VK+KL wrecked

Fellows—What follows is intended to clarify, simplify, and document the question of the "Bf 110 V K + K L Wrecked." Some of my comments may already have been noted.

• The photograph in the first posting on this thread carried the SKZ V Q + K L. It was a Bf 110G-4, WNr. 5338.

• The V Q + K L belly landed in Switzerland on 06.02.44 and was duly examined by Swiss authorities. The port side overall photograph noted above was presumably made after the landing in Switzerland. For this, see Ries, Deutsche Luftwaffe über der Schweiz 1939-1945, pp. 60-61 with photo exactly duplicating the image initially posted on this thread.

• Curiously enough, the Bf 110G-4 WNr. 5347 V Q + K U forced landed in Switzerland on 15.03.44. It carried the Tr.KZ 2 Z + O P of 6./NJG 6. One may refer to Ries, Deutsche Luftwaffe über der Schweiz 1939-1945, pp. 60-61 with photo.
