Research Me-109 and Fw-190 - 30 May 1944
Hello,
I would like to find informations about the shot down of a Me-109 and few Fw-190 on 30 May 1944 over Brunswick. Some pilots of the 355th Fighter Group were on an escort mission over Halberstadt between 8h54 and 13h35. In South West of Brunswick, Lt Santos shot down 2 Fw-190, Lt Donovan 1 Me-109 and 1 Fw-190 shared with a pilot from the 353rd Fighter Group and Lt Robinson an other Fw-190. Is it possible to find the names and the units of these pilots (Fw-190 and Me-109) ? Thanks in advance for your help |

Re: Research Me-109 and Fw-190 - 30 May 1944
On that day the Luftwaffe lost 18 Fw 190 and 24 Bf 109 against US bomber and fighter units over Central Germany. How to decide who shot whom down?

I know that will not easy to find but I’m pretty sure we can. If we know which plane was shot down and the places where that happened. I’m looking for planes shot down near Brunswick and more particularly 1 Me-109 |

hi,
found that in a german newspaper: Quote:
unfortunately not much more!? for guidance: "Lamme is a town in Lower Saxony that was incorporated into Braunschweig with the municipal reform in 1974." "The Raffturm was one of seven defensive towers of the Braunschweig Landwehr, the medieval outer fortification of the city of Braunschweig." regards ghost

Re: Research Me-109 and Fw-190 - 30 May 1944
There is a loss of a Bf 109 G-6 of 7/JG 1 at Fallersieben N/E of Brunswick by Wolfsburg with Uffz Horst Steinburg wounded and another of 9/JG 1 at Salzwedel with Uffz Ferdinand Spychinger killed . JG 3 lost 2 Bf 109s by Belzig , 1 at Zerbst, 1 at Schafstadt , 1 at Zorbig and 1 at Stendal . JG 1 also lost Fw 190s at Dresden, Pretzier , Salzwedel and Magdeburg. I do not believe these locations are in the area S/W of Brunswick and I do not have loss lists for the other units involved . From the post by Merlin there are still another 30 losses to account for .
