Beaufighter JM109 11th May 1943

Hello Everyone,

Please could anyone help with the identity of a Ju-88 Which was shot down off the Dutch coast 20 miles west of Vlieland by F/O R.K.Roberts and Sgt J.Stephens in Beaufighter JM109 from 143 Squadron Coastal Command on 11th May 1943. The Beaufighter was damaged in the attack and made a force landing at Martham Norfolk with no injuries to the crew.

Many thanks

Bill

The combat took place at 1116 hrs off Terschelling and the Beau's code was Q. German records state that a Ju 88 took off at 1056 hrs to check for mines in the North Sea and that at 1125 hrs in PlQ 05 Ost/3460 they were attacked by a lone Beaufighter at 20m altitude. The German crew reported hitting the Beaufighter in the port engine but did not see its crash and that they got back safely. No record of the unit but they were not shot down

Many thanks for that information that fits with the information I already have of the Beaufighter force-landing with the port engine not running and the port undercarriage not being down possibly caused by the Ju-88.

Hello Tom,

I do not know the full name of F/O R.K.Roberts so you may be correct.
