404 Sqn Loss 5Nov41 Blenheim L9337

Canadian pilot MacKay was routed along the Norge coast to carry out a Bert Recon - Bergen to Trondheim - Calculated T/O time 07.35

Blenheim fighter failed to return.

Did the aircraft run out of fuel or get shot down?

Re: 404 Sqn Loss 5Nov41 Blenheim L9337

The Vorpostenboot Tornado escorting the ship Konsul Carl Fisser reported hitting a "Hudson" near Stadlandet. Several hits were seen and the aircraft trailed smoke.
Two Husdons of 608 Squadron also disappeared this day so this might not explain the Blenheim loss.

Re: 404 Sqn Loss 5Nov41 Blenheim L9337

Both Hudsons of 608 Squadron failed to return from a shipping strike off the Frisian Islands, so it is quite possible that it was the Blenheim of 404 Squadron that was shot at off Stadlandet.

Francis, do you know the time of the engagement reported by the Kriegsmarine vessel?

Hi Francis and Rainer,

Certainly seems plausible. Would be good to know as Rainer said the time of the incursion with Konsul Carl Fisser escort.
