Trouble in French countryside (1943)
Hello, I found in a package of unclassified archives a paper of the French gendarmerie dated January 3, 1943. This report mentions that a single-engine German fighter aircraft had landed in emergency on the territory of Montluel (Ain, France). The pilot's name is spelled "PHENZ" and the number "788" was on the aircraft. The pilot stated that it was an engine failure. The aircraft was found to be in good condition, only the propeller was twisted.
The pilot was taken back to the base of Lyon-Bron. But at that time there was no fighter squadron there ... Could you help me identify the pilot, the aircraft and the unit? Thank you. JF |
