He111 22/02/1940
Good afternoon,
On the morning of the 22nd of february 1940, No 1 Squadron P/O' s Mould, Shepherd and Mitchell flying from Rouvres where they had been detached ( Vassincourt airfield being unserviceable ) were on patrol between Grandpré and Triaucourt. Shepherd and Mitchell made home after having lost their leader. At 10h30 P/O Mould sighted an He111 at 19,000 feet 2 miles north-west of St-Ménéhould and attacked. Having run short of amunition he last saw the enemy flying north and diving steeply. Has there been any He111 lost or damaged on this date wich could match with this action? Many thanks. Bernard. |

Re: He111 22/02/1940
Hi,
I have nothing in my records for this date. If it had been lightly damaged, less than 10%, it probably wouldn't have been recorded. I do have other 111s that were damaged, written off/failed to return for that date but they were recce aircraft working in other areas. Always open to any amendments/corrections however! Regards, David |
