Information Concerning Loss of Oberfeldwebel Joseph Vollmer over England - 20th February 1944
Hi,
Can anyone help me with my usual questions. I have just acquired this sterbebild of Oberfeldwebel Joseph Vollmer. He was killed in an air flight over England on the 20th February 1944. Can someone identify his unit, aircraft, how he was lost and any further information concerning the rest of his crew. With thanks Rick |

Re: Information Concerning Loss of Oberfeldwebel Joseph Vollmer over England - 20th February 1944
Hi Rick,
Thanks to Heuser for the lead regarding the possible unit, checked my file and found the Verlustmeldung for this crew. The details are as follows: 2./KG66 20.02.44 Ju 188E-1 Wnr.260369 Z6 + DK This aircraft crashed on return from England at 21.20 hours at Sailly-Loretto, France. All five crew killed in crash. Pilot: Uffz. Alfred Swillims. Born 20.02.1922 in Duisburg. Observer: Ofw. Josef Vollmer. Born 01.12.1914 in Brabecke. Radio/Op: Fw. Franz Claes. Born 05.10.1919 in Paderborn. Gunner: Uffz. Ludwig Neuhaus. Born 04.08.1919 in Erkelenz. T.-B: Uffz. Max Kopka. Born 17.07.1920 in Preussental/Ostpr. (Not to sure what T.-B means on the report). All five crew were buried at Montdidier, France in 1944. Grave numbers: 166,167,168,169,170. Any joy with scanning the Josef Berger death card for me? Thanks a lot, Rick! Great catch! Apart from the NVM, I had nothing on this crew.
Would it be possible for me to get a scan also of the Sterbebild of Ofw Josef Schmidt (KIA 5 January 1944) for my I./KG66 unit history? Feel free to contact me off the board or via PM. Best regards, Marcel |
