Maximilian Mayerl

Dear All,
Ernst Obermaier in his book on Knight's Cross recipients says that Maximilian Mayerl won his last two victories on 27 August 1943, and then a seven-month stay in a military hospital due to an illness followed. Did he get wounded and were those its consequences, or did he contract an illness?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Maximilian Mayerl

Dear Teresa

I actually have him joining I.;/EJG1 on 8th December 1943, but can't be 100% certain this is correct. Ritterkreuz awarded 22nd November 1943, but these often awarded whilst on leave or hospitalised, so no help there. I then have him with erg.JGr.Ost in early 1944 and Kommandeur of erg.JGr.Nord from 1st September 1944, ended the war back with I./EJG1. Died on 10th February 2010.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Maximilian Mayerl

Dear Johannes,
Thank you very much for your answer. The fact that he joined EJG1 on 8th December 1943 seems to indicate that he may not have spent seven months in hospital... Maybe Obermaier made a mistake...?
Best Regards,
Teresa

Re: Maximilian Mayerl

Dear Ghostwriter,
Thank you very much for your answer. Well, I wasn't exactly asking about his aerial victories, but thank you anyway. Maybe that was actually a consequence of the wound he received on May 7, 1943... I don't know. Maybe someone else will know that...
Best Regards,
Teresa

in this source https://www.ww2.dk/air/jagd/ejg1.htm he was from 2.11.44 - 8.5.45 group commander of the I. group …

Dear Ghostwriter,
I don't know. If I knew that, I wouldn't have asked.
