Yes, you are right. The body was found by chance by a archaeologist in 1965 on the island and was classified as possible "medieval turk", died in the siege of Marseille. Close to the island, we did some research about a sunken german DB601 Engine, so the body was interesting for us again. About 2006 Luc Vanrell located the remains again, now in the US, and we initiated together a DNA research to compare the DNA with the brother of Alexis, also a former JG27 fighter pilot. The result was succesfull.

Regards

Lino

Lino,

Just a quick question, was this the DB601 that was found near the remains of De Expury's F-5 wreckage?

Re: Adel Luftwaffe KIA- Info needed

Lt. Adolf Freiherr von Böselager - 1./JG 21

Born 24/07/1917 - Burg Peppenhoven
MIA 13/05/40 - Belgium
Recovered 15/09/2002 - Leuze (Namur)
Buried with honour 6/12/2002 Burg Peppenhoven

A portrait of him exists, even if wrongly captioned, in H-E BOB's memoirs. Both flew together in Poland.

Best regards

@Carlos
Yes, the engine was found in the same area.

@CinA-78
The Böselager recovery story was also very interesting.
