Me 110 Question
Hi everybody,
the last Me 110 series built was the Me 110 G. However, a successor was planned as the Me 110 H. Its main modifications with respect to the G were installation of the DB 605 D/E engine (the E being a D with different reduction ratio), a retractable tailwheel, and some reinforcements. This project did not materialize because the DB 605 D was reserved for the Me 109 series.
Now Mankau/Petrick write in their book "Bf 110, Me 210, Me 410" that some of the Me 110 H features were nonetheless inserted into late Me 110 G production, without saying which. One of them seems to be the introduction of Eberspächer flame dampers on some late Me 110 G-4 night fighters. Introduction of a retractable tailwheel would have been most desirable, since by 1944 the Me110 was no longer among the faster airplanes, but in the literature a Me 110 G with its tailwheel definitely retractable has never occurred to me. Is there anybody who can either confirm that such a Me 110 G never existed or name a reliable source proving the existence of a few such aircraft?
Best wishes,
klemchen
