RAF Personnel Files

Hello
What is the policy of the Royal Air Force to obtain information on personnel records of service personnel who have served in the past. Per example I need to research two airmen who were killed in WWII one was killed in action in May 1942 and the other in 1943.
Because in Canada if they pass a certain time frame since their time of death you can assess their service record.

thanks in advance
Santiago

Re: RAF Personnel Files

The Casualty Files ARE, incredibly, in the process of being released into the public domain and they already have a document allocation number etc at TNA Kew. However, it will be a very long process and don't expect it any time soon.

Re: RAF Personnel Files

Record of service (as opposed to the whole Personnel File) are available to Next of Kin but at some stage third parties might be allowed to request a very brief Record of Service at a cost of 30 pounds per person. Cas Files could well be going to the TNA but the question of releasing into the public domain is another matter and at this moment in time unlikely/unclear.
