Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2

From Crecy yesterday

Just to let you know, Dornier Do217 finally arrived this morning a few days ahead of when we were expecting it to come in!

At last!

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2

My copies arrived today. Let me remind potential purchasers it is a combat record (my interest) not a nuts and bolts book (there are others far better qualified for this). Thus if it appears that all I have written about the negative side of its combat operations, I am afraid that an aircraft with a combat shelf life of 3 years up against superior Allied defences and Germany going increasingly on the defensive, spectacular successes with such limited numbers were few and far between (but there were some!)

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2

The subtitle of the book is a good inclusion as not to mislead buyers onwhat is the book's emphasis. It is however interesting to note that there is no good "nuts & bolts" book on the Do 217, at least in English (Griehl's book is very poor).

Fab - looking forward very much to this, having bought your recent Osprey "DO217 units of WW2" book Chris. With Robert Forsyth's imminent JU188 Osprey book we are truly spoiled!

Jukka: Agreed Sub-title is "A Combat and Photographic Record". I agree the the late Manfred Griehl's book was written some time ago so if anyone wants to do such a book, the door is open!
Si: Hope you enjoy it!

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2

This book was a pleasure to read, more so that not nuts and bolts, but people. Some of whom i've met over my years. A welcome addition to my 2 1/2 metric tonnes of books.
Well worth the purchase price, awaiting larger book in the fall.
Best wishes and happy reading.

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2

Hello,

Question about page 51 of the book:

In the text on December 22nd, three times takeoff of three Dorniers is mentioned.
Is it so that the first three are from II./KG 40 and the second three from I./KG 2?
If so, what unit did the last three belong to?

Kind regards,
Timon
