KG 26 ops on 5th & 6th July 1942

Hi guys
some assistance please...

I'd like to know if an attempted attack on convoy PQ 17 took place on 5th July or 6th July 1942.

The attack in question was attempted by 20 aircraft of I./KG 26, but failed due to fog/bad weather. Although I'm loathe to use him as a reference, Irving seems to suggest 6th.

any help appreciated!
Rich

20 He.111 from I./KG (Fliegerfuhrer Lofoten) started 5.7.42 at 14.16-14.36 from Bardufoss and landet 21.53-22.30. They can't find convoy because aircraft in contact with convoy from FF Lofoten lost them. Second contacter in 16.40-18.00 has disturbance in radio transmitting. Also there was fog. Planes find nothing and landed back with torpedoes.
Source: report FF Lofoten for LXXI AK.
