Hello Kutscha

If that was deemed to be 100% accurate 602 wouldn't have come in to the discussion at all, so if professional historians think they might have been involved, they might have been involved, I wasn't there.

2TAF Volume 2 Breakout to Bodenplatte by Christopher Shores & Chris Thomas gives a whole page to their research on "Who Got Rommel?" and mentions Le Roux, and 602 amongst others, and they have access to far more documents than I do, albeit I have the whole 125 Airfield/125 Wing ORB - June 1943 - July 1945, and, probably in my archives, the relevant page from 602 Squadron - which of course was precised in the 125 Wing ORB.

cheers

Allan

Re: The staffing of Rommel in July 1944

Allan, 602 made claims of attacking cars:

The Form 540 does not say when these staff cars were hit, or during which of the four sorties the squadron put up that day.

Form 541 shows that Chris le Roux flew two sorties: the first was from 15.40 to 16.50 and the second (which was the fourth and last sortie put up by the squadron that day) from 22.10 to 22.40.

Rommel was attacked between 17:00 and 19:30 which is when 412 was in the air.

Re: The staffing of Rommel in July 1944

Thanks, yes I know what's on the Wing and Squadron ORB's, and this information is of course available to professional historians, and if they still believe that 602 might have been involved who am I to argue against their opinions?!.

I don't always accept the times, serials etc in the ORB as 100% accurate, as they are written by humans, under severe strain at time's, and not always being written up on the date they occurred.
