Re: 82nd Fighter Group (FG)

Search on the airforcehistoryindex site mentioned above for 0082 Fighter Group between dates 12/01/1944 and 12/31/1944 gives this:

http://airforcehistoryindex.org/data/000/080/894.xml

Sometimes searching for the individual squadrons, i.e. 0095 0096 or 0097 Fighter Squadrons in the same date range will give more possibilities.

Re: 82nd Fighter Group (FG)

Fenix,
The links you found don't relate to the "82nd Fighter Group" in Italy. They come up because they match "some" of the search terms but all not in the correct order.

This one http://airforcehistoryindex.org/data/000/080/690.xml
comes up because it has "0082" and "Fighter" in the text, but is is for the "0082 Fighter Squadron" . The word "Group" matches to the 0078 Fighter GROUP.

Similar problems with the others you listed, i.e., some are for SERVICE GROUPs not Fighter Groups.

Hi all,
On Dec 18 120 P-38s from the 1st and 82nd Fighter Groups flew fighter escort for bombing missions to Odertal, Blechhammer, and Oswiecim and 44 P-38s from the 14th Fighter Group escorted 47th Bomb Wing to Florisdorf Oil Refinery in Vienna.

On Dec 26 thirty-two P-38s from the 82nd Fighter Group escorted the 47th BW (B-24s) to railroad bridge at Ora and Avisio River Viaduct at Parona di Valpolicella, plus several alternates: railroad bridge at Mezzacorona, and the rail lines near Roverto and Lavis.
Another 82nd FG's twenty-six P-38s bombed the bridge at Latisiana, but missed.

Do you have maybe any info how much was plane from 82nd Fg ??? Maybe escort separated before the target and 1st FG fly over Odertal, Blechhammer, and 82nd FG fly over Oswiecim ?? Do you have maybe this details ? Second question. Do you have any details how many planes was started and how many was finally over target ? Any declared victories ??

Re: 82nd Fighter Group (FG)

Hi,
1st FG flew to Blechhammer, 58 P-38s escorted 5 BW (B-17), and B-24s of 49 and 55 BWs. Another one of 94 FS, 1 FG made supply drop to partisans near Mrkopalj in Croatia.
That leaves 62 P-38s to 82 FG for Oswiecim and/or Odertal. P-51s also flew.
As far as I remember, no claims and no losses for fighters, but check.
Check bomber groups documents, there is always info about escorts -who, when, where etc.
