Hello,
I recently posted about a He111 with three "pink" vertical bars on the rudder. In the same salvage dump in England was a photo of the tail of a Bf110C. At the EoE Working Group we're seeking a match to the rest of the a/c and an ID of the date, location and crew for the related crash.
Does anyone have any good candidates for this one? The Bf110 could date from probably any time during the Battle of Britain. I'm not aware of any Bf110 whose tail would match this, although our collection of FL or crashed Bf110s with known tail markings during the BoB is not complete.
Can anyone help?

Note the light area on the upper rudder where it appears that there was a patch of striped away fabric that may have been painted yellow, probably indicating a III./ZG26 aircraft. We've looked at 3U+KR of 7./ZG26 down on 3 Sept 40, but for various reasons this doesn't fit the location where you would expect a salvage dump containing the remains of the Bf110 and a KG53 He111 with the rudder stripes. The pilot's scoreboard (Fw Hans Grau, WIA, PoW) also doesn't fit, as he had only two victories to his credit as of this date. He could well have been flying an a/c other than his own on that day, but there was only one pilot from 7 Staffel, Kanopka, who had five or more victories by 3 Sept; he had seven by 26.08.40. No other pilot but him had more than four victories by 3 September, although throw in a tab by a bordfunker and Haught's crew could have reached five. Anyway, the scenario for this one seems like a pretty long shot.
So who can solve this mystery?
