French crash site identity?
On 02.12.1959 the remains of an unknown pilot were recovered from a field grave at Montigny-le-Chartif, near a Chateau (de Fraze?) he was said to be a pilot that was killed in an emergency landing, type of aircraft and date unknown, the only other info is that his age was estimated as 30 yrs.
He is buried at Champigny-St.Andre as an unknown. Any candidates? |

Re: French crash site identity?
Yes 1959, this was when this field grave was discovered, this info is from the VDK.

Re: French crash site identity?
Surely with so little information such as a date and the fact that VDK are so vague, isn't this an almost impossible task especially after 54 years since the body was discovered?

Re: French crash site identity?
Nothing is impossible if you are able to connect all the bits and pieces. We just identified here in the NL a German pilot recovered 40 yrs after the war and who we were not able to identify for nearly 30 years. Now we finally were able to do so....

Re: French crash site identity?
I'm afraid that's all the info I have, the obvious fact is that a field grave would suggest post D-day, I was hoping the location may stir up some info.
Early days yet. Joe |
