Can anyone identify the Lw bomber unit this emblem belonged to?

Dénes, I think that it was 3./KG 77 emblem.

Since you were a LEMB member, I believe that you can still access the related discussion here http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/fo...howtopic=14076

Looking at the LEMB images, it appears that it is a nightmare creature. It has human legs that end in hooves. The tattered wing edges are most strange. I would say the face is bat-like. That said, the connection to KG 77 is the most likely.

Perhaps taken from a story book from the period? Minus the bomb, of course.

Thank you all for the leads. So it was most probably used by 1./KG 77 on its Do 17s in 1940.

Not sure that it was exactly 1./KG 77, but you have a long discussion on the subject here on the TOCH also http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...+bomb+insignia
