Landing from Queen Mary to the fighter unit...

Hey all,

Reconstituting the history of a fighter pilot of the 412th FS, I am very surprisedt hat we find him landing from Queen Mary on july 07th 1944, then we "loose him" in his corresponance, and he "dives out " again 7 weeks later, writing he just joingned his "old gang" (= his own squadron, the 412th FS).

What could have been the kind of trajectory of a jung 22 years boy landing with 14.000 troops in England injuly 1944? Could he have had some "hollidays" there for one and half month ???

When and when should he have learned when /where he would have to go, for finding again his own unitin UK? Did orders be given still in States, or at a military office of the USAAF in London?

Which kind of controls/official rendez-vous would he have to go to as arriving there in UK

Is such a long delay something normal in summer 1944, such an "useless" long stay in UK without fighting, and even training I guess?

Thanks for any possible help about such a mysterious "trajectory" just before the deadly battle over France.

Mathias
