Sgt Fergus 'Jock' Davidson, 229 Sqn

This pilot, author of 'One to One Thousand Horsepower' (Woodfield Publishing), was taken POW on 13th June 1943 (Spit VC EF569 X-Z). Can someone date his posting to 229?

Thanks,

Bruce

Re: Sgt Fergus 'Jock' Davidson, 229 Sqn

Hi Bruce,

I am probably not being too much help here but he does not appear on 229 Squadrons April 1943 ORB (the only month I have), and neither does EF569.

Russ

Thanks Russ, that is helpful. I wanted an idea of how long he served with 229 Sqn-obviously only a matter of weeks.

Re: Sgt Fergus 'Jock' Davidson, 229 Sqn

The index in Spitfires Over Sicily, by Brian Cull et al, has two Sgt Davidson ( F. & J.S.) serving in 126 Sqdn :
p.64 : on 03 Jun 1943, Sgt Jock Davidson was flying JK611, MK-M (code of 126 Sqdn);
p.76 : on 13 Jun 1943, Sgt Jock Davidson was flying EF569, X-Z (code of 229 Sqdn) when he became a POW;
p.139 : on 11 Jul 1943, Sgt J.S Davidson was flying JK622, MK-O.

Sgt F. Davidson joined 229 Squadron on May 10th 1943 according to the ORB.

I don't think he is the same as Fergus Davidson from 126 Squadron.

Re: Sgt Fergus 'Jock' Davidson, 229 Sqn

Thanks for the recent contributions.

The 126 Sqn pilot was Sgt (later F/Lt) John Sharpe Davidson (A401775). His first tour was 1943/44 and he commenced a second tour, again with 126, in 1945; MID (LG 1/1/46). Service file has been digitised.

It would appear his nickname was also 'Jock' (?)
