Helmut Kischnick 4./JG5 1942

Hi guys

He apparently was credited with 18 victories. Has anyone any details?

Cheers
Brian

Re: Helmut Kischnick 4./JG5 1942

Hi Brian

Kischnick made his first five confirmed claims as a Feldwebel(with 9./JG 5) then his next six as an Oberfeldwebel, with the exception of the Hurricane that was in the West with 4./JGr.Ost, all were in the east with 9./JG 5. May have made later claims from October 1944.

5th November 1942 P-40 1100 hrs 300 metres Nr.1
14th March 1943 P-40 1406 hrs 30 metres Nr.2
14th March 1943 P-39 1410 hrs 150 metres Nr.3
28th March 1943 Boston 1627 hrs Nr.4
12th July 1943 Il-2 0129 hrs Nr.5
21st January 1944 Hurricane 1318 hrs Nr.6
2nd April 1944 Jak-9 1151 hrs 600 metres Nr.7
17th April 1944 P-39 1935 hrs 3500 metres Nr.8
23rd April 1944 Boston 1035 hrs 200 metres Nr.9
23rd April 1944 Boston 1037 hrs 30 metres Nr.10
23rd April 1944 Boston 1039 hrs 30 metres Nr.11

The abrupt end of claims is suspicious, but I can't find a loss for him.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Helmut Kischnick 4./JG5 1942

Good to hear from you, Johannes

Thanks for the list of claims for Kischnick. However, he apparently shot down two DB-3Fs on 2 July 1942 while with 4.Staffel, and may have scored previously on 30 June 1942, when 4.Staffel claimed three Pe-2s (maybe he was credited with all three?)

Another of these most interesting JG5 characters!

Cheers
Brian

Re: Helmut Kischnick 4./JG5 1942

Hi Guys

1942 not covered on the micro films, so possible he did claim more in 1942. The others look suspect, especially noting the staffels, perhaps mis-identification of pilots, I'll look into them.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Helmut Kischnick 4./JG5 1942

Hi Guys

That for 18th February 1944 was 100% Helmut Koschack. That for 10th January 1943 is a bit harder to explain, nothing quite matches the micro films, the 1125 hrs claim was by Wulf-Dietrich Widowitz, but a Pe-2 at 50 metres......hardly a case of a mis-read name.

Kind Regards

Johannes
