Fairy Battle loss 27.09.1939
Hello!
I would like to ask, if there is any chance, that one of You have informations on a Fairy Battle, K 9271. I am looking for crewnames and the letter(s) on the fuselage sides. It was shot down on the 27. of September 1939 by an Obergefreiter Joseph Scherm from JG ??? and he was then shot down by another Fairy Battle. Informations on that would also very welcome.... The air battle was in an area called Bockweiler. Thanks in advance Christian

Re: Fairy Battle loss 27.09.1939
Christian,
The Battle was from No.103 Sqn and it has PM squadron letters. Unfortunately no aircraft letter is known to me. Michal |

Re: Fairy Battle loss 27.09.1939
Christian,
Draft details from my current work on The Battle of France Then & Now. 27 September 1939 103 SQUADRON Battle K9271. First attacked by French Curtiss H-75s then severely damaged by Bf109s of JGr.152 during photo-reconnaissance over the frontier between Bouzonville and the Rhine. Forced-landed on one wheel near Rohrbach 1.40 p.m. Flying Officer A. L. Vipan unhurt. Sergeant J.H. Vickers critically injured; died of wounds 5.10.39. AC1 J. E. Summers unhurt. Aircraft PM*G a write-off. Sergeant Vickers was decorated with the French Medaille Militaire, the first such award to a member of the BEF. He was buried in the French Military Cemetery at St. Louis-Les-Bitche, and later reinterred in Choloy War Cemetery. Last edited by Peter Cornwell; 17th August 2005 at 10:07. Reason: Revised details |

I regret not. This unit was pretty good at recording serials but not individual aircraft idents for the period. Sorry. PC |
