JG53 Bf109-Collided with flak emplacement!
Hello all.
Has anyone got the pilot details for the following incident please? On the 9th of August 1940, a Bf109 E-1 from I./JG53 crashed at Guernsey Aerodrome due to engine failure during a sortie. The aircraft collided with a light flak emplacement and 3 gunners were killed and 2 injured! I have some names from graves at the Fort George German war cemetary on Guernsey which probably account for the lost gunners. However, can anyone provide pilot details: apparently he was badly injured in the crash. Thanks in advance....Steve. |

Re: JG53 Bf109-Collided with flak emplacement!
Hello Steve,
I've checked my BoB literature - JG 53 was in the course of change the base to Guernsey. There were 3 gunners dead and 2 gunners AND the pilot wounded. Unfortunately, I haven't found name of the pilot or any further details. Hope this helps. Regards, Nef |
