I/JG 54 6 Sep 40

Looking through my records and previous discussions on 12 OCH, Caister of 603 Sqn was apparently credited to Von Bonin of I/JG 54 but I have no record of him filing a claim this day. Can anyone throw light on this?

Re: I/JG 54 6 Sep 40

Hi

The Spitfire is forced to land by a Alarmrotte of the JG 54. In the papers of the III./JG 54 was no entries, so i think it was planes from the I./JG 54. A forced land plane was in this time probably not a victory. The captured Pilot came on the same day to Berlin.

In the side of the cockpit of the Spitfire was found a paper with codenames for the german invasion:

Blackbird = I have sighted enemy ships. Surface vessels, submarines or motor boats.

Mustard = I have sighted suspicious vessels which i think are probably enemy but i am noch certain.

Apples = I have sighted a large number of aircraft believed enemy flying towards the shore.

Gallipoli = Enemy landing from ships or boats at.... .

Catterpillars = Enemy landing tanks at.... .

Parasole = Enemy parachutes (numer indicate) landing.... .

Starlings = Enemy aircraft landing....

"Repots are to be prefixed emergency".

Greetings Christian

Thanks Christian. I have a photo of Caister in a Stab I/JG 54 car (with the cartoon cavalier on the door) on his way to captivity
