Oblt. Ivo Lubich-Edler von Milowa (JG 2)

I am searching information relating to the Oblt. Ivo Lubich-Edler von Milowa who was member of the JG 51, JG 105 and JG 2. Especially a victory against a B-17 on 24/1/44. If a photograph of this Staffelkapitän exists, it would be useful too. Thanks for your help.

Re: Oblt. Ivo Lubich-Edler von Milowa (JG 2)

Hello,
could anyone supply some info on victories or claims of Lubich-Edler von Milowa?
Most of all, I'm interested in his career in JG 51.

Thank you in advance,
MG

Re: Oblt. Ivo Lubich-Edler von Milowa (JG 2)

Unfortunately, we have nothing about this fellow in our officer database but I found the following in the Tom Kracker database:

Lübich-Edler, Ivo vonOblt., 8 victories. 6/JG-51 (6/41 S.U.), 11/JG-51 (8/41), 2/JG-105 (7/43), 7/JG-2 (1/44), Stab II/JG-2 (4/44)Bf 109E & F in JG-51, Fw 190A in JG-2EP, EK 1 & 2, Fighter Operational ClaspKIA 30 April, 1944 (Magnus).
One known victory, his 1st Soviet, a SB-2 on 22 June, 1941. A 2nd, a Soviet Pe-2 on 20 August, 1941. A 3rd, and first known western victory, a B-17 SE of Paris on 14 July, 1943. A 4th, a B-24 at Yvetot on 14 January, 1944. A 5th, a B-17 SE of Brussels on 24 January, 1944. A 6th, a B-17 in the Hochlanden area on 8 February, 1944. A 7th, a B-26 south of Amiens on 25 March, 1944. An 8th, a B-17 E of Paris on 10 April, 1944. His victories may be as high as 15 (Magnus). Alternate spelling: Lübich-Edler Milowa (Magnus).

Hopefully, this may help.

I know nothing about this guy but I just wonder about the spelling of his name, or the inclusion of the hyphen anyway.

The "Edler von Milowa" bit seems to be a title (= Nobleman of Milowa), leaving his personal name as Ivo Lubich.

Re: Oblt. Ivo Lubich-Edler von Milowa (JG 2)

I found this while I was rummaging in Prien's Jagdfliegerverbände Band 10/IV:

LUBICH, Ivo von. 27.11.43 Oblt., appt Staka 7./JG 2 (to at least 31.12.43).

Apparently this is the same fellow.

Yes, "Edler von" was a hereditary title, and we have found several Luftwaffe officers possessing this title:

BALLASKO, Otto, Edler von.
BÖHMER-BÖHNERSHEIM, Gerhard, Edler von.
BRAUN, Friedrich, Edler von.
DALL’ARMI, Konrad, Ritter und Edler von.
DAWANS, Hans, Ritter und Edler von.
FEDRIGONI, Julius, Edler von Etschthal.
GRAEVE, Adolf, Edler von.
GRONEFELD, Ritter und Edler von OTTBERGER, Richard.
KENZIAN, EDLER von KENZIANSHAUSEN, Georg.
KIESLING, Helmut, Edler von.
KRZIWANEK, Johann (Edler von).
MADER (Edler von Manilova) Dr. med. Rudolf.
MANN Edler von TIECHLER, Hermann Ritter von.
PITSCHMANN, Ernst, Edler von Marschfrey.
PLANITZ, Karl-Ferdinand, Edler von der.
RONCADOR, Heinrich, Edler von Nornenfels.
STUBENRAUCH, Wilhelm Edler von.
SVOBODA, Hubert Edler von.
ZECH, Ulrich, Ritter und Edler von.

We hope that this helps.

Re: Oblt. Ivo Lubich-Edler von Milowa (JG 2)

Hi,

By way of explanation for those who, like myself, hitherto have not been aware of this title, the following from www.Wikipedia.com (for a more detailed explanation, you can search under 'Edler'):

Edler (Edler von), was until 1919 the lowest title of nobility in Austria-Hungary and Germany, just beneath a Ritter, but above nobles without title which used only the preposition "von" before their surname. It was mostly given to civil servants and military officers, as well as those upon whom the second rank of an Order had been conferred. Women were styled Edle (Edle von).

Regards
