RAF Incidents Belgium 1919
Any further detail is welcome about two RAF incidents in Belgium during 1919 that I found in online newspaper archives:
On or just before 1 May four RAF machines were surprised by a snowstorm and were forced to land near Jambes (Namur). One of the airplanes flipped over and the pilot officer was badly injured. (Must have been a single seat fighter?) On 17 August two RAF airmail planes had landed near a hamlet between Louvain (Leuven) and Wavre due to engine trouble. When they were about to take off again a 12-year old boy, who was among the many local spectators on this Sunday, ran across the field and was hit by the propeller of one of the airplanes. The young lad was killed instantly. If fingers can point to airplanes and/or squadrons involved, thanks to hear so. Regards, Leendert |
