Elusive Kampfgeschwader 2 Signature

I am having no luck in trying to put a name to the attached signature concerning an Urlaub entry in a Kampfgeschwader 2 Soldbuch.

Dated 02-June-1941, I 'think' the signature reads as Hauptmann Reiss, although I cannot be 100% on that.

In Doug and Larry's excellent Luftwaffe Officers database, there is a Hans Reiss listed as being in Kampfgeschwader 2 in this timeframe however, he is listed as not being of Hauptmann rank until 01-October-1942 (incidently, he has signed the Soldbuch also, and is a different signature) which would rule him out for this signature.

So, any ideas on this really will be very gratefully received.

Regards Richard.

Thank you for your reply, I totally agree in that it does look like Reiß.

Going by Doug and Larry's Luftwaffe Officers database, the best fit I can see for the signature is possibly for:

REISS, Georg. 01.07.39 Oblt., temporary duty from RLM pool to FFS C Neuruppin. 15.11.39 trf to Erg.Kampfgruppe 2 Schönfeld-Crössinsee. 16.10.40 Oblt., 9./KG 77 KIA - Ju 88 A-1 (3Z+DT) crashed at Amiens.

That said there is of course no mention of a promotion to Hauptmann, which is not helping!

Anyway, I am hoping someone might be able to provide some more info either way into who this signatory might be.

Regards Richard.

Sütterlin "V" - so z.b.V. (zur besonderen Verwendung) is correct

Re: Elusive Kampfgeschwader 2 Signature

Since this deals with the approval of "Genesungsurlaub" (vacation for recovery from wounds) it may not be an aviator who approved this.

Norbert

Elusive Kampfgeschwader 2 Signature

Thank you to all who have added input into trying to identify this signature.

As I see it, with the stamp bearing the Feldpost Nr. 02546 ((Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) 1. Kampf-Geschwader 2), shows him as having returned to his unit from the Lazarett to be issued Genesungsurlaub.

Consequently, it is a Hauptmann Reiß from Kampfgeschwader 2, holding a tempory positiion within the unit whom I believe singed the entry (unless I have something majorly wrong!).

I will keep looking and hopefully something will surface.

Thanks again. Regards Richard.

Re: Elusive Kampfgeschwader 2 Signature

Hi Richard

I stumbled across this thread while also looking for Reiss. I have recently acquired documents to a man from KG 2, which includes the attached, also signed (I think) by 'your' Reiss in March 1941 and showing him as Oberleutnant und Offizier z.b.V.

I also have a condolence letter dated February 1943 signed by Hans Reiss but I think the signature is different (first and last pages attached to show headed paper and signature). This Reiss was the Staffelkapitän of 3./KG 2 and an Oberleutnant from 17.05.42 to 11.06.42, according to Ulf Balke in his two-part work on KG 2.

I am still in the early days of researching, so happy to compare notes off line if that suits you.

Re: Elusive Kampfgeschwader 2 Signature

According to an old contact from 1./KG 2 who was shot down in March 1943, Hans Reiss took over 3 Staffel from Rolf Hausner who had moved to 7 Staffel?
