B17, 42-31183, 303rd BG, 15. August 1944 crash site found
Dear all,
B17, Bad Penny, 42-31183, lost on Mission 15th August 1944, 303rd BG was found at a Forrest between Leonberg and Stuttgart.(South Germany) Not as written in MACR 8170 near Bitburg. B17 was without crew flying south and was claimed by FW. Lennartz, ME262 Jet, over Leonberg. One wing was broke of and B17 crashed into a forrest. Many discussions were held that that was impossible. But there was a plate found at the crash site with the radio call number 231183, Serial Number of the Bad Penny. So I think some lists must be corrected. Greetings to all. Fozzy65 |

Hello,
do have then an idea why the Navigator from Bad Penny Ltn. Lester Reuss was killed by civilians in Preist near Bitburg? Their was an Court Material against the german civilians (15th U.S.Army) held in Ahrweiler at the 1. June 1945. The US-War Grave Service found the remains from Ltn. Lester Reuss at the local cemetary ih Preist. And we have an crash from an B-17 near Matzen/Bitburg. h. |
