Location of JG 5 airfield, Frieres, France

Hi, all!

Was the airfield I./JG 5 used and referenced as Frieres in records referring to an airfield located close to the very small village Frières west of Abbeville?

Regards,
Andreas B

no, as Michel says it was east of Mondidier (another I./JG 5 field) which in turn is south of Amiens. Frappé has a very nice double-page map of northern France with all airfields used by Luftwaffe fighters between June and August 44.

I./JG 4 was there briefly at the end of August '44 as well. Search "Frières" on Google Earth and it takes you straight there.

OK, thanks all.

Which Frappé book has this map?

Thx.

I just ordered the other one - the Normandy volume. And placed a pre-order for the reprint stated on Amazon to be released in November 2017.

Regards,
Andreas B

The Normandy one is a 100-page and deals with the French-based Luftwaffe in general. The hardback is only concerned with single-engined fighter, Schnellkampf and reconnaissance units, with extensive tables of losses, claims and documented wrecks. It is written unit-by-unit which is very useful in one way but requires cross-referencing between chapters if you want to follow the campaign or get a picture of one day's events.
