Hello,
A nice photo of a british machine at : https://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-XL-WK2-...oAAOSwvgheVSmQ Can anyone assist with the identity. I'm tempted to say RAF FE 2d, Possibly serial A5, but I'm not certain. Regards, Clint |

Re: Captured British Aircraft
Clint
You are ever so right. Aircraft in question is indeed the FE.2d A5 which was lost during its transit flight to St Omer 1 June 1916. Not very funny for its crew. Cheers Stig |

Re: Captured British Aircraft
Clint the F2B is almost certainly from 62 Sqn. the front 2 bars have been painted out, they also put the aircraft letter on the nose ( another captured one was C4630 "J" ).

Re: Captured British Aircraft
Hi Nick,
Thanks for the id on the Bristol Fighter. I rather wonder if it is not shown part way through a repaint job by its captors.A roundel can be seen on the wing, but at least in,the admittedly few, 62 Squadron F.2b photos I've seen none have the broad white band on the fuselage.Awaiting application of a cross perhaps? Have you seen the Air Britain work referenced by Andy Ma,in the Bristol MR.1 thread? Any 62 Squadron Bristol Fighters with a broad fuselage band? Regards, Clint |

Re: Captured British Aircraft
I agree with Nick
Looks very much like a 62 Sq aircraft. According to Les Rogers their particular three stripe markings were discontinued in late March 1918, so this aircraft may have been lost behind German lines between Jan - March. No 62 Sq had two disastrous days in March, the 12th and 13th, when they lost six aircraft. Unfortunately none of these aircraft are listed in the Bristol book with a code letter, but one of these six aircraft feels quite likely to be it. No 62 Sq had some more combat losses before April and that was on the 24th, 27th and 28th of March, but none of them seems to have ended up behind enemy lines. Cheers Stig |

Re: Captured British Aircraft
Thanks Stig.
Of the 6 lost on 12th / 13th , 5 were brought down intact; but letters apparently not recorded... B1250, B1251, C4824, B1207, B1268. C4630 "J" I mentioned was captured 19/5/18 but after squadron markings were discontinued. Usually--but not always---the crosses were marked on a white background. These are interesting notes on 62 Sqn. losses etc... Nick http://www.apw.airwar1.org.uk/62%20s...ses%201918.htm http://www.apw.airwar1.org.uk/62%20s...rew%201918.htm |
