Re: Fw190D-9 at Kitzingen, May 1945
White 9 was 584584, the serial is visible on at least one photo.
White 12 case is more complicated, as the number is hardly discernible on the only photo I know that allows to read something, although the third digit looks like '9'. https://abload.de/img/kgrhqvhjbse9bgbgc5-bp26d41.jpg |

Re: Fw190D-9 at Kitzingen, May 1945
I have white 12 marked as "F8 WNr.583234 White 12 4SG2 built by Arado at Warnemünde K4 511th FS 405th FG Kitzingen. But the Pics do seem to show a 9 in there.

Re: Fw190D-9 at Kitzingen, May 1945
Well Guys
I also admit the "third" digit looks very much as a 9. The problem with that is that it then does not fit into a single known F-8 WNr range that I am aware of. I have taken the standpoint there once was a six digit WNr on that fin (which may or may not be wrong). I am not trying to guess what the "first" digit may have been, but what then is the "second" one? To me it is either a 3 or a quickly vanishing 8. However that make things even worse. Totally impossible to locate anything that fits - not even an A-8. Anyone else? Cheers Stig |

Re: Fw190D-9 at Kitzingen, May 1945
Solution is simple: 'White 12' is an A-8 from 739xxx batch. The camouflage fits the late Ago 190s style more or less too. It is the aircraft seen in Jonathan's post: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showpo...01&postcount=4
(note the final version of the outer gun bay cover) Compare with this photo published in Aero Journal 04 and 49: https://abload.de/img/aerojournalnew49p.47lafk6.jpg |

Re: Fw190D-9 at Kitzingen, May 1945
The photo shown in post #4 is Fw 190 White 12 at Kitzingen. I have others of the aircraft in my collection. Sadly, my nice side views of this Fw 190 don't have its W.Nr. clearly visible.

Re: Fw190D-9 at Kitzingen, May 1945
Ok, so White 12 is the A-8 not an F-8 as previously thought. Makes sense. So, 739234?

Thanks Maciej
Wonder how I missed that A-8 batch.... Cheers Stig |

Re: Fw190D-9 at Kitzingen, May 1945
Given that the sources that cite the xxx234 serial do not identify the aircraft subvariant nor the batch number correctly, I'm reluctant to accept the '234' without a proof (photo or intel report, for example).

I’d concur with that, Maciej, particularly after looking at the K4 painted photo.

Re: Fw190D-9 at Kitzingen, May 1945
And if it could be an A-9 ? The propeller blades seems to be larges for an A-8 or an F-8. During a long time, i believed it was an F-9 version.
Best regards, Lumabe. |
