Luftwaffe attacks on England

Forgive my ignorance if this is common knowledge to most, but did the Luftwaffe ever attack USAAF bases in England? My interest lies in Grafton Underwood in May and June of 1943 and any attacks that may have been launched at that air base.

Thank you in advance,
Brian

Re: Luftwaffe attacks on England

Brian, main attack was on 22-4-1944 when ME410's on an intruder mission shot down a number of B-24's returning late from a mission to Hamm. See ''Night Of The Intruders'' ISBN 1-85260-460-6. There was some other incidents in 1944 including when a B-17 of 96 BG was shot down on the morning of 12th April, and in the early hours of May 22nd a B17 was destoyed when a hanger was bombed at Great Ashfield . On 7th. June Me 410's attacked B-24's of 34BG over their base shooting three bombers down.
Not quite deliberate but may be of interest but on the night of 21/22 March a Ju88 on a bombing mission to London was shot down and crashed on some B-26's of 386BG at Earls Colne.
During May /June 1943 there were daylight F/B attacks, and night raids to the UK. Renewed Intruder attacks started up again in mid June but I could not find anything specific to Grafton Underwood,

Regards

Re: Luftwaffe attacks on England

I know that US Base Parham in Suffolk had a lone raider/intruder drop a load of SD2 butterfly bombs across the airfield.
