JG 51 - need help with hand-writing
Hello,
who can help me decipher this hand-writing on the back of the picture? I came across it on a militaria website, gielsmilitaria.com. The 109 is from JG 51. Now I am trying to find out the crash, just out of curiousity. This looks like a Bf 109 Friedrich to me, and I wonder if the year 1944 on the back of the picture is the year in which this crash took place. Kind regards, Timon |

Yes, this is a Bf 109 F-2 of 1./JG51, Smolensk area most probably on M1 highway, Summer 1941.
I don't know what "he" is speaking about on picture's back. Regards, Franck. |

Re: JG 51 - need help with hand-writing
Thank you Stefan and Franck. Interesting. Maybe the sentence goes like this?
wurde über Kanal abgeschossen. Where could the word Nacht come from? Did he possibly fly nightly operations with this machine? |

Re: JG 51 - need help with hand-writing
Timon, all the photos - they are numerous - of this crashed machine have been taken by troops passing by.
I'd be very surprised if the pilot was the owner of one of this pics. As I said I do not understand what's the link between this machine and the text. Most probably is talking about "other" nights ... |

Re: JG 51 - need help with hand-writing
Dated 19.07.1944? The Bf 109 F-2 on the photo was lost in summer 1941.
Perhaps the website gielsmilitaria.com mismatched the photo and the writing overleaf. |

Another view of this machine. Nice Panzer in the background, possible a picture from a tank crew member... You are right Franck.

Re: JG 51 - need help with hand-writing
My interpretation is, that the aircraft was
hit above the channel. So the pilot was happy that the plane made it to the coast and he survived. No idea about the date. Regards Stefan |
