RAF Lightning Squadron badge- need help - and is W/C on photo known?

Good morning to all members.

Post-WWII is not my main area and am not familiar too much with this BAC Lightning Squadron marking. Is that of 1, 3 or 111 Squadron?

Am trying to identify the Squadron to check who was the pilot, apparently the Wing Commander depicted (so it may be the C.O.) who flew on the 13th September 1966 with the Brazilian Air Force Officer depicted on the left side.

Any help in identifying either the Squadron or the RAF Officer is most welcomed.

Adriano

It seems to be a T Mark 5 from the 226 O.C.U., then based at Colltishall.

Is the CO's name known, in September 1966? It may be the Officer on the cockpit.

Wg Cdr Mick Swiney was the boss of 226 OCU at that time.

Adriano,
Good luck with your research.
I believe Mick Swiney died a few years ago.

Hello Andy,

I've just deleted some messages. Yes, I checked out and Swiney died in 2016 at 80. Am trying to find relatives (sons or daughters). He may be the pilot who flew with the Brazilian airman.

Tried to find the 226 OCU ORB at The National Archives but for the year of 1966, there seems to be no entry. Found 1970-74 period, and others previously or from 1967 onwards....

Quite a bit on him on the web-Air Cdre Michael Swiney. You might like to try and see if his family remained members of the Lightning Association-the RAF will no longer forward letters to his relatives

Do you have a description of the badge. Only ask as 226OCU had a few Shadow squadrons (145 SQN (later 65 SQN in January 1971). Sub-units within the OCU included No.1 (Conversion) Squadron, No.2 (Weapons) Squadron and No.3 (Advanced) Squadron – the latter being referred to as ‘2T
