Seeking info on service of Bf110C-2 W.Nr. 3002 and it's ultimate fate
Hello,
Does anyone have any records of what happened to Bf110C-2 W.NR. 3002--what units it served in and what eventually happened to it? This was part of a production run from Sep. 39 (3000 to 3133). Thanx, |

3102 was documented by A.I.1(g) as the serial of the 3U+EP down at Blackmanstone, near Newchurch, on 18 August 1940. There is no record of this on my copy of the NVM.

Re: Seeking info on service of Bf110C-2 W.Nr. 3002 and it's ultimate fate
Hello guys,
Rather than making things worse, but hoping to solve the anomalies, I have following data in my Bf110 file (and big question marks) : 3002 : no single reference (yet) 3102 : (3 references in chronical order) - 18 August 1940 > Bf110C-4, Stab I./ZG 26, U8+BB, Dering Farm, 2 POW: Oblt.Proske, Bf Möbius (source: Vasco page 183) - 18 August 1940 > Bf110C, 6./ZG 26, 3U+EP, Newchurch, 1 POW, 1 KIA: Kästner, Kaffenberger (source: Vasco page 184) - 7 December 1942 > Bf110C, 3./ZG 1, PQ.29414, 2 KIA (source: Reel 8 Luftwaffe losses as from the IWM archive) As there are no references for 3002, 3003 nor 3103 and 3104, it is likely that somewhere typos have been made. Perhaps John Vasco can clearify his double use of 3102 first before we try to solve the remaining puzzle? All the best, Marcel

Re: Seeking info on service of Bf110C-2 W.Nr. 3002 and it's ultimate fate
Me too - curiouser and curiouser. I can find no mention of 3102 in any document relating to the loss/capture of PROSKE. Nevertheless, I have managed to duplicate this serial in BlitzT&N Vol.1 for which - apologies. I suspect confusion in analysing the various reports on these two crashes at some time now long-past. AVIA15/737 at NA(PRO) may provide the clue. Otherwise, I can only blame rapidly advancing years or the cumulative effects of alcohol - most likely both.

Re: Seeking info on service of Bf110C-2 W.Nr. 3002 and it's ultimate fate
All the sources I have, and it seems everyone else here, list WNr. 3102 in two different incidents for 18-Aug-40. Obviously one is wrong.
Marcel - the loss for WNr. 3102 in Dec-42 is corrected to WNr. 4221 per John Vasco's research in his book 'The Sting of the LW' - presumably via the NVM. I probably have a copy of that document somewhere, and if I can find it will confirm. |
