JG 301 A-8 "Yellow 8" at Salzwedel
I'm curious about this colourful bird. Power-egg seems to have been replaced, but what could be the colour of dark spots on engine cowling side? 70? What about: - Cowling ring unpainted with light 76 or light 76 with 75? - Cowling front fully 74? - 75 and whitish 76 under dark spots on cowling? Lower cover 76 - MG cover 66? - Fuselage beige 76 or whitish 76 misted with 02? 81 around canopy, rear fuselage 82 and fin 81 mottled - Rudder painted in 65? Some spots of the same paint around the tail Pictures don't really show upper wings/stabilizers, 81/82 along with fuselage main colours? Landing gear cover 76 with 81 mottle. E: Does the camouflage give any indication to the factory this was built at? Below is a very crude colour profile.

Re: JG 301 A-8 "Yellow 8" at Salzwedel
How about the fuselage sides being misted with RLM 81 over a 76 base?
Cowling and gun trough could both be late Dunkelgrun, or one of the crossover mixes with RLM 74? Nose front and top of cowl in 75? Rudder in a different mix of 76? (different production house/line?) What do you think about the wheel hubs? |

Atleast I finally realized the G-10 in the background could actually help and it even looks like a 74/75/76 Erla-scheme (With 74 matching the front of cowling, but is the spinner 22 or 70?

Another possibility. Quote:
Yea, I don't know how I feel about it. My perception of '65 is that it's a fairly bright, "happy" blue Quote:
I've only just picked up on what looks like a demarcation line on the forward cowl ring. Could that be a reflection of whatever is behind the camera? It's a single piece of metal (I think?) there is no "convenient"/intuitive reason to paint the bottom half in a darker colour. My first impression was that it's all natural metal, though how about 75 over 76.....but re-attached upside down? |

Re: JG 301 A-8 "Yellow 8" at Salzwedel/ upper wings camouflage
Bonjour,
I have in my files a photo showing a part of the upper wing camouflage of this plane. I shall scan it and shall try to put it on the forum (it is allways a though job for me to put a photo on this forum). Regards Rémi |

Bonjour,
I hope it will work. Note : - low contrast upper wing camouflage - no outer canon bulge on the top of the wing. Regards Rémi |

Re: JG 301 A-8 "Yellow 8" at Salzwedel
Rémi,
Sir, thank you for posting your new-to-me photo of this most-colorful aircraft. At the risk of stirring a hornet's nest, in my files this aircraft is listed as: Fw190A-9 (490041) 8+ — yellow ("—" = white x 900mm) of JG301 abandoned at Fl.Horst Salzwedel. If correct, this would make it a sister ship to the often-photographed Fw190A-9 (490044) 22+ — red ("—" = red o/l white x 900mm) abandoned at Fl.Horst Langensalza. Steve Sheflin |

Definitely seems like 81/82 on wings, as in fuselage. Quote:
Biggest point of interest is mottling pattern. "Red 22" is covered along the fuselage and tail fin in cloudy pillows, while "Yellow 8" only has soft branches on it's tail. Similarities are landing gear covers mottled over attachment bolts and possibly swastika placement and size, but I don't know enough about Antons to tell if this is a good identifier. But maybe the ID-plate is a good indicator?

Re: JG 301 A-8 "Yellow 8" at Salzwedel
RLM 65 can be excluded on this plane imo. RLM 65 can be seen on the tail of the Go 242/244 behind the tail of the Bf 109. The rudder seems to me RLM 75, just as the background of the Bf 109 fuselage Balkenkreuz.
