I seem to recall a Maserati with the same name. Means "desert wind" I think.

"Sirocco" in fact ... which is "a" desert wind, not "the"

Byron

Since the photo was attached by you, was it taken in Greece by any chance?
Unit was 104 Squadriglie and it was normally based in Libya during the war, but you never know...

Re: What kind of a plane is this?

Hello Stig,

I found it in an Album of III./Z.G. 26. The most of the pics were taken in Greece (mainland and Crete) and a few in Africa. I think you are right with Libya.

regards from Salonika

Re: What kind of a plane is this?

Thanks Byron

I will put it then as probably taken in Libya. Is it possible to be more specific regarding the date? The Italian unit did operate the Ca 309 type between 1940-43.

Really wish the photographers in the "good old days" could have been more careful and writing a bit more about their photos....

Cheers
Stig

Re: What kind of a plane is this?

Hello Stig,

the german unit III./ZG 26 was in Greece December 1941 and then in Libya. Attached from the same album a plane (3U+ED) in the desert .
