The target was marked and 39 aircraft bombed, but all missed the railway yards because of thick haze and the Master Bomber ordered the bombing to stop. Friday, May 12, 1944 -Seven Lancasters, and four Mosquitos to the rail yards at Hasselt, Belgium. Monday, May 22, 1944 8th AF -130 P-47s are dispatched on a fighter-bomber attack on railroad bridges at Hasselt and Liege, Belgium, losing one P-47. Tuesday, May 23, 1944 8th AF - 103 P-51s are dispatched to bomb a railroad bridge at Hasselt, Belgium. |

109 Squadron sent three Oboe Mosquitos to mark Hasselt on the 11th while 105 Squadron sent two, 156 Squadron sent fourteen Lancasters and 35 Squadron sent three. The remaining Lancasters were from 1 Group and included 101 & 460 Squadrons. There was a Master Bomber on this attack. H-Hour was 23.50. On the 12th 109 sent two Oboe Mosquitos to do the marking and 105 sent two. Also a Master Bomber on this one H-Hour was 00.30. Seven Lancasters were from 635 Squadron and 4 Group sent 100 Halifaxes which included 76, 466, 640, 10 & 158 Squadrons.
