151 Squadron 19/2/42

Can anyone help with any information regarding a Dornier 217 which was claimed as destroyed by S/L Smith and Flt Sgt Beale flying in Boulton Paul Defiant AA469 of 151 Squadron 19th February 1942.

Sorry I cannot see any Do 217s damaged or destroyed on this date

Thankyou. I found this information in 151 Squadron ORB that S/L Smith and Sgt Beale claimed a Do217 destroyed and a Ju88 as damaged on this date but I could find no combat report to go with these claims or anything else to support their claims.

It would appear that the F540 is the only record of these combats-Sqn Ldr Smith/Flt Sgt Beale in AA419 Do 217 destroyed, Ju 88 damaged; Sgt Macpherson/Sgt Tate in AA417 Do 217 damaged; Plt Off Wain/Plt Off Lyne in AA382 Do 217 damaged. III./KG 2 was after a convoy on this date but no losses. Lord knows what they were attacking

Could this have something to do with convoy FN34 18/2/40 when 151 Squadron allegedly shot down Dornier 5342 U5+KR of 7/KG2 but 609 Squadron also claim this aircraft down plus two more damaged? Just a thought.

609's claim was 18 Feb 42; 151 Sqn's claim was 19 Feb 42. U5+KR was lost on 18 Feb 42 and yes, 609 claimed one destroyed plus two damaged and Digby Wg another damaged. Do 217 E-4 5348 of 9./KG 2 returned after being damaged in combat, again on 18 Feb 42
