A difficult question
Hi,
A Ju 52 had on 31.01.44 an emergency landing on the hills of island Naxos in the Aegean see. Crew and 17 Italian POWs survived the accident. A local friend found there some remnants (pics attached). Question: What this number on the door is telling us? Can we recognize the type of the plane? Any more answers about the crew or any thing else? thanks Byron Last edited by byron-; 8th June 2018 at 20:44. |

A difficult question
Not really a difficult question. It's a Ju-52. The third photo shows an adjustable cooling louver fitted to Ju-52 aircraft. (You could control the temperature of the engine by controlling the airflow passing through the base of the cylinder heads by rotating the louver from fully open to fully close, or any setting in-between.)
The photo below shows it as installed, and slightly closed. Bronc Last edited by Broncazonk; 30th May 2020 at 04:15. |

Re: A difficult question
I believe the numbers seen in your first photo are just the manufacturing markings from the aluminum manufacturer.
