RAF fighter art work

Hi,

There has been several publications about bomber nose art but nothing, as far as I know, about fighter art work. So I thought I would look into the subject and see how far I can get.

If anyone has some interesting photos of RAF fighter art work please start posting them here. This doesn't just cover nose art but cockpit artwork as well and also how the pilots displayed his 'kills'.

Regards,

Alex

Hi Alex,

You may like to check this book out (probably from the library due to the high cost) :

Re: RAF fighter art work

hello Alex,
You will be hard pressed to find any RAF aircraft noses among these photos Alex as they are all about the USAAF in WW2 and Korea.

Hi,

Thanks for the link Amrit1.

Alex,
There may still be hope for my idea yet then.

Re: RAF fighter art work

Alex Smart is right Alex, RAF depictions will be a little scarce in Amrit's recommendation!

I have quite a few Alex, any particular era of the War you are interested in these being from?

Hi Smithy,

My main interest is in Gladiators but I also have an interest in the desert air war as well, so that seems a good place to start.

Re: RAF fighter art work

Alex Crawford and others,
It seems that Mr. Hugh Haliday - RCAF Historian wrote a fabulous book about RAF and specially RCAF nose art. I do not remember very well the name of this book, neither the ISBN to put here "by memory" ( had to check my catallogues and books to post here later ).
Hope you can find his work - which, if I do remember well has something about 400 or 600 photographs!
Cheers
Adriano

I'll see what I can do Alex. Having just moved to Norway (again) all my things are a little disorganised to say the least.

I do know that I have a lot of images of nose/cockpit art from Spits and Hurries (mostly from the Battle of Britain, and also 485, 331, 332 sqns as well)

Give me a day or two and I'll see what I have Glad and MTO-wise!
