F/O R. L. J. Barbour - 264 Squadron - claim 12th July 1944

Good night,

Does anyone do know the time and place of the claim submitted by 264 Squadron pilot, F/O Barbour, on the night of 12-13 July 1944?

Which machine (serial number) was he flying that particular night?

He and his Navigator claimed a Ju 188 shot down.

Hello Adriano,

F/O R.L.J. Barbour and F/O G. Paine of No. 264 Squadron claimed a Ju 188 destroyed on 12/13th July 10 miles north of Bernay, France, at 0116 hours. They were flying Mosquito Mk.XIII (the serial number unknown to me) on this occasion. The above details are taken from their combat report.
Hope this helps a little.

From the ORB they were flying Mosquito XIII HK481.

Ota: where did you find the combat report? I have been unable to locate it.

Enjoy!

Frank.

OTA,

Could you please do send me a copy of this particular combat report too? I am checking one particular Ju 88 loss around that área and this is why I am trying to obtain more details about this claim bt F/O Barbour. Maybe this is the link that is missing....

Matching bomber losses over Normandy at this time will be very difficult as the lack of K Reports show. The only one of note 12 Jul 44 was near Rouen. In addition to Barbour, Pat Burke of 219 and Mathews of 157 Sqn also filed claims for Ju 88s/188s. NVMs rarely have a crash location, only target

Hello Chris,

Yes, indeed it has been a difficult task to try to match claims and losses. Do you happen to have the place and time of the claims submitted by Pat Burke (219 Squdn) and Matheus (157 Sqdn)?

Chris,

Just found that Matthews claimed a Ju 88 SE of Étampes, flying on TA401, RS*D...but no information of hour of combat on that source.

Now knowing which crash interests you, the RAF claims for that night are nowhere near where the Ju 88 crashed. I can see no USAAF claims during the nights 11-13 Jul 44 that might help
